Step 4: Mint an NFT

What does it mean to "mint an NFT"?

To mint an NFT means to publish a token on the blockchain. Once the token is published, it can be sold or traded on a marketplace.

For the purpose of this tutorial, we have created a website for you to experience your first NFT mint. The token will be published on the Ethereum blockchain.

Now let's get you started on minting your first NFT.

Step 1: Prepare your hot wallet

Last week we went through the steps of creating a wallet on Metamask. You can create multiple accounts within one wallet - this week, we'll create another account and call it your "hot wallet" to be used specifically for Web3 transactions.

As you know, security is your most essential priority in Web3. It's good practice to develop a habit of specifically connecting your hot wallet account to mint sites. You will use your hot wallet for Web3 transactions from now on, as this will keep your digital assets safe from scams and attacks.

Create a new account in your MetaMask wallet and send ETH from your main account to your hot wallet account.

Now that your hot wallet is ready, let's go to the mint site https://zerocorp.xyz/ and mint your NFT!

Keep reading the steps below so you can learn what's happening during the mint process.

Step 2: Authorize your wallet

On the mint site, hit "Connect Wallet" and select MetaMask.

MetaMask will ask your permission to connect to the website. Always read the prompt properly and make sure that the website is only asking for a "See" permission.

3. Mint your NFT

Once you've connected your wallet, a "Print Certificate" button will show up. Click this button to mint your NFT.

A MetaMask notification will show up asking you to confirm the transaction fee (also known as gas fee). Gas fees tend to fluctuate and change based on network activity. The more congested the network is, the higher the gas fee will be.

It can take up to 5 minutes to process a transaction on the blockchain.

You just minted your first NFT! Click "Open on Opensea" to view your NFT details.

Step 4: Interact with your NFT on a marketplace

Opensea is Ethereum's most popular marketplace. You can browse and buy NFTs from other projects, or sell your NFT.

Congratulations! You’ve completed the Introduction to Web3 series.

You're all set to (carefully) explore the world of Web3 - have fun!
